Today education technology is on its peak and will continue to evolve as we leverage technology solutions in every aspect of our lives. Education is no exception. There are a ton of useful edtech solutions available for both teachers and students to take advantage of. A lot of them come free of charge. I have had a chance to try and review a number of edtech tools and each time I have seen some real improvements in student engagement and progress.
So today, I will be sharing my thoughts on the very well known and highly effective digital publishing tool – Bookcreator.
What is Bookcreator?
Bookcreator is an application that allows you to create digital books in various formats in a quick and easy way. It started out as an iPad app, but right now it is available as a web app for Chrome, which means you can run it from any device that has Chrome browser.
Students need to sign in with their Google account and link it with the teacher’s library. This way each time a book is created it will be published to the classroom library and be available for other students as well.
Bookcreator is a very simple, self-explanatory tool, where both teachers and students can create their own books using a diversity of templates, fonts, styles, as well as media, such as videos, images and sounds.
How Can Teachers Use the Bookcreator?
Bookcreator is an all-in-one tool that teachers can use both for teaching course material and for giving assignments. For instance, you can use Bookcreator to publish extra teaching materials that are not in the textbooks and easily distribute it to the classroom. With the different multimedia features, you can add your own voice recordings to add extra tips or explanations.
Another great way to use the Bookcreator is to get students to create their own “About me” books to share with their peers or create photo books to share their summer vacation stories. This greatly encourages storytelling skills within students and also gives them the tools to master those skills.
It is also a great way to receive and check assignments from students, all in one app.
How Can Students Use the Bookcreator?
Writing is a basic skill that every student should be able to master. However, creative writing in a tradition sense might sound scary and too big for students. Which is why the Bookcreator app works so well in encouraging student engagement with easy-to-use interface, fun templates, colorful designs and tons of tools to spark creativity. It is a perfect tool for digital scrapbooking, journaling, digital diaries and so much more!
Another great thing about Bookcreator is that you can invite your fellow students to collaborate on a project and create awesome books together! Students can work on the book real-time making it a perfect fit for group projects as well.
How Does the Bookcreator Work?
When you open your Bookcreator app, click the “New Book” button and start creating.
Next, you will need to choose the layout of your book and move on to the actual fun stuff, like designing the front cover, adding the book copy, media, stickers, audio and more!
When you are done with the first draft, go ahead and preview your book in iBooks to see how the finished product looks. And if you are happy with the results, save your book and you are done!
It’s that easy.
Getting students’ attention and engaging them into the class can be quite challenging in today’s fast-paced digital world. But we as teachers should learn to take advantage of and utilize technology in the education process rather than fighting it. This way you will better engage students in learning by speaking their language. I believe that the Bookcreator is one of the best tools to help kids of all age groups develop creative writing and digital publishing tools, so I highly recommend trying it out.
