Give-Away: Really Good Stuff’s Literacy Center – Base Race

What we’re giving away?
literacy center in a box: Base Race by Really Good Stuff

What is it?

Students build as many words as they can in 2 minutes using base words and affixes.
Next they record their words on paper.

Students could do this activity on the floor, desktop, or in a pocket chart.  I’ve had my second graders work alone and in partners.  They enjoy the activity and seeing how many different combinations of words they can make.  Sometimes they use the timer, and sometimes they just enjoy working with the words and word parts.
I allow them to be creative with the center activity.

Because of this game, they’re recognizing words with multiple syllables and pronouncing them with ease.
They’re enjoying exploring the parts of words and learning how to stretch their vocabulary.

I especially love the *no prep involved* and *easy clean up.*  Always a bonus!
